Weight Gain and Menopause

by Jibby Brown
(Ft. Wright, Kentucky, USA)

I am a 46 year old woman who is entering menopause. I am struggling with the fluctuation of my weight on a daily basis. I exercise, do weight training, take spin classes, and I watch what I eat all of the time.

I don't want to take HRT. My OB/GYN has recommended it and I have filled my prescription but would like to try other treatments before trying this controversial method.

No one knows enough about menopausal women and I am very tired and frustrated of hearing, "You're getting older; it's natural to have these problems."

This doesn't make it any easier when you get up for work every day and have to worry about whether or not your clothes will fit that day even though you worked out for an hour the night before.

I am desperate for someone to help me or at least try to help me. My personal trainer has given up on me because nothing he has put me on has worked. He is befuddled as I am.

Menopause, Weight Gain and The Natural Approach to Hormonal Balance
by: George Parigian Jr.

Hi Jibby!

Thank you for writing. I suspect there are many women in the same position as you, wanting answers, but not satisfied with what mainstream medicine has to offer.

Let me offer some advice.

There are two routes you can go with this. The first step is something called Biosignature Modulation.

This is a technique invented by world-renowned conditioning consultant Charles Poliquin, using skinfold calipers to measure fat distribution sites on the body to identify hormonal imbalances.

Once the imbalances are identified then specific blood tests are used to narrow it down further. Then elements of Chinese medicine are used to bring the endocrine system back into balance.

The second route is bioidentical hormone therapy, which has been made popular in Suzanne Somer's book "Ageless"

Ageless: The Naked Truth About Bioidentical Hormones

Both methods are a real improvement over traditional hormone therapy because they are a more natural and subtle approach. These methods avoid using synthetic hormones, and the side effects that accompany them.

Also, holistically oriented practitioners such as Naturopaths and MD's who practice functional medicine use cutting edge innovative methods to bring your hormonal system back into balance, rather than just treating symptoms with toxic drugs.

Personally, I would try the Biosignature method first if you can locate practitioners in your area. I know Charles Poliquin personally and he has high standards for those he trains in this method.

It is THE most natural approach there is to hormonal issues.

If you do not get the results you are looking for with this method, then I would investigate bioidentical hormone therapy, as for natural approaches, this runs a close second.

Lastly, if you are having problems getting the help you need, write to me directly via the contact form on my contact page and I will try to help you line up someone to get you the help you need.

Good luck and best regards,

George
