Why You Should Avoid Artificial Sweeteners

by Arvin Buising

Convenience is one of the ‘best’ reasons for the use of artificial sweeteners. But ask yourself, will you be willing to risk your life for the sake of convenience? They contain very little if any calories and they come in handy packets but keep in mind that sweet isn’t always good.

Some artificial sweeteners are in fact toxic substances. And there’s no shortage of evidence that there are very harmful side effects observed from taking artificial sweeteners. Fatigue, dizziness, abdominal pain are just some of these side effects.

Good For Weight Loss?

Some in the health industry advice taking artificial sweeteners because they don’t have calories. They advise that because artificial sweeteners don’t have any calories, then they will surely aid in weight loss. But that’s not the case.

Whenever we ingest anything sweet, our bodies are ‘tricked’. It thinks it just consumed glucose and goes into storage mode. But since there is no glucose available, the body becomes confused. Consuming zero calorie sweeteners actually triggers your hunger for sugar.

When it comes to sugar consumption, moderation is the key. Or you can use natural substitutes such as honey or Stevia. Don’t get misled by TV ads. Do your own research because ultimately, you are responsible for your own health and well-being.
