Ellwood's Coffee Across the Parking Lot from Ellwood Thompson's Local Market

Ellwood Thompson's Local Market is Richmond's original organic grocery store, located in the trendy Carytown area of the city. About five months ago, they opened a new cafe and organic restaurant just across the parking lot.

It is a welcome addition to the Carytown community, which caters to students, young professionals and tourists.

Ellwood's Coffee offers an extensive selection of fair-trade coffee, bought directly from farmers, from Counter Culture Coffee and also serves local specialty teas, local, organic and gluten-free beer, as well as local, organic and biodynamic wines. Their food menu has a nice variety of organic sandwiches, salads, hot entrees, pastries and desserts, with a good selection of vegetarian and vegan items.

I was very impressed with my first visit to Ellwood's Coffee. I had a cup of wild mushroom chowder with an artichoke and roasted red pepper salad, served with some crusty herbal bread. I tried one of their specialty teas (I believe it was jasmine) and the whole meal experience was delicious.

The day I was there, they had a nutritionist speaking about the benefit of antioxidants, so it was quite a pleasant experience. Beyond the coffee, tea and food items, Ellwood's Coffee hosts art shows, open mike nights and live music, as well as classes on the environment, health and wellness topics.

I've stopped in for coffee on a few occasions while shopping at their organic grocery store. The coffee is always strong, bold and flavorful. I do plan to go back for lunch or dinner as soon as I find some time. There are very few places in Richmond that have quality organic food that you can trust. Ellwood's Coffee is a welcome addition to our neighborhood.

As an aside, Ellwood Thompson's grocery also has an eating area inside the store where you can also get light meals ... all organic, and all delicious.

Gillie's Vegetarian Cuisine

I love meat. In fact I love meat so much that even while dieting I tend to eat it six days out of the week. This only highlights how delicious the organic restaurant Gillie's is.

Gillie's is located in the heart of downtown Blacksburg in Southwest Virginia. Blacksburg is small community of about fifteen thousand people.

It is a community best known for its outstanding football program. It is also a community that should be known for its organic vegan and vegetarian cuisine.

We’re talking about a restaurant that was featured on ESPN during a football game simply because it was the most outstanding restaurant in the town.

Gillie's has made a name for itself through its organic vegetarian and organic cuisine, in a market that is dominated by people who love meat.

Despite my love for meat, Gillie's organic restaurant is my favorite restaurant to eat at in downtown Blacksburg. Located at 153 College Ave, it is not a place to miss.
