The Treehugger's Cafe

The Treehugger's Cafe

Treehugger's Cafe is a relatively new organic restaurant in the area.

I went there for the first time a few months ago and it seems that it's already become very popular! There was quite a crowd! After eating their food, I can see why.

They offer a great selection of vegetarian and vegan organic items on the menu. The food was delicious; as was the smoothie I got to drink. The atmosphere is cozy and casual and the staff was very friendly.

Not only is the food served at Treehugger’s organic, but it’s also from local farms. They even donate a portion of their money to wildlife preservation! Each menu item is named after an endangered species.

Treehugger's offers homemade soups, salads, rice bowls, wraps, paninis and veggie burgers. They even serve breakfast all day!

I’m so glad that we finally have an organic restaurant like this on the West side of Cleveland!

Verde, Urbana, OH

Verde

115 Miami Street
Urbana, OH 43078-2022
(937) 653-4004

Verde is a great place to stop mid-day to pick up lunch and a coffee, though the fare is more like a sandwich shop than a coffee shop. Many of the offerings include sandwiches, panini, salads, soups, or other appetizers/snacks, such as hummus and pita.

My choice for the day was a roast beef panini, with crème fraiche and horseradish, which I took to go. The sandwich fulfilled my expectations, as it was delicious, buttery, and crisp like a panini should be. The restaurant additionally makes use of recyclable or biodegradable items for those taking their food to go, including straws and silverware produced from sugarcane.

One thing that may be problematic for some visitors is the selection of beverages. With the coffee bar, Verde serves a wide variety of coffee and tea based drinks, as well as smoothies and juices. However, for someone hoping to stop in for a soda, they would be disappointed. Verde also carries a selection of wines for sale, which I have not tried.

Overall, I enjoy visiting this organic restaurant. The decor is beautiful, service is friendly, and everything I have eaten on my visits has been tasty.

Mustard Seed Organic Restaurant in Montrose, Ohio

by Mona
(Kent, Ohio, USA)

At Mustard Seed organic restaurant, you’ll find absolutely amazing food cooked superbly with the freshest of natural organic ingredients by fine chefs. Whether it's a full meal, or just a sandwich and salad, I have always enjoyed my meal here.

Proportions are also pretty decent, making it pretty hard for me to finish a full meal. A must have are the drinks, which are fabulous, especially the smoothies and the coffees. The desserts are to die for! I always leave Mustard Seed feeling the perfect combination of full, yet not heavy.

The environment is also classy and respectable, making this well worth the drive I have to make. Wait staff are generally friendly and service is relatively quick, or as expected. It’s kind of funny how it overlooks the store below, but it’s not enough of an eyesore to bother…besides, I’m too busy enjoying my meal!

I just wish they hadn’t closed the Solon full service organic restaurant!

My First Brush With Organic Eating: "Basilico Oragnic"

by Jason Jarvis
(Cincinnati, Ohio)

Signature Basilico Pizza

Signature Basilico Pizza

A friend and I have been trying to eat healthier and we were looking for a nice place to get an occasional lunch together rather than a typical restaurant where the food is shipped in already prepared and frozen with tons of preservatives.

One day we came across a little place called Basilico on the way back from a client in Mason, Ohio. I was somewhat hesitant as the restaurant was prominently displaying its adherence to organic foods. I know it's silly to think that because something is organic it cannot taste good, but I have to be honest; that's how I felt.

We sat down and looked through the menu. The prices were certainly higher than common fast food fare, but it wasn't outrageous and it was organic eating, and healthier after all. By the smells in the air it certainly seemed well worth it. As a throwback to our past eating habits we decided to get two wood oven baked pizzas.

I decided to go with the signature Basilico pizza, tomato sauce, mozzarella, sliced tomatoes, ham, black olives, and fresh basil, but I had them hold the olives. My friend ordered a custom pizza with tomato sauce, mozzarella, sliced tomatoes, peppers, and pepperoni. We decided to split the pizzas and compare the flavors.

When the pizzas arrived we were both reduced to salivating dogs. They looked fantastic and the aroma was more than we could resist. From the first bite I knew I was going to be returning to this place often.

I have rarely had a pizza with such a fresh flavor. Both pizzas were delicious and my friend and I were both shocked at how quickly we devoured them. Organic eating had a foothold on me.

I actually came back to Basilico later that same week for dinner. I wanted to try another fully organic dish and see how well it held up to the pizzas I had tasted. I decided upon another favorite dish of mine, chicken Parmesan.

It arrived at the table with a side of pomodoro pasta and grilled vegetables. Once again the food just looked simply amazing and the aroma was too much to resist. Everything was absolutely delicious and dispatched very quickly.

I count myself fortunate for finding this place and I now have a very positive view of organic foods thanks to this restaurant. I have started looking for other organic food outlets to explore. Judging by as healthy and good as the food has been so far, I expect nothing but positive results!

Organic Energy Restaurant and Power Juice Café-The best organic food in Ohio!

by Dena

Relax at The Organic Energy Restaurant

Relax at The Organic Energy Restaurant

I recently dined at the Organic Energy Restaurant and Power Juice Café in Solon Ohio, and I was pleasantly surprised. The list of items on the menu was impressive.

The have a nice variety of salads, soups, sandwiches, noodle bowls, and even breakfast. They also have a wide variety of fresh juices, smoothies, and power shakes. You can add a shot of supplements to your drinks if you choose to.

I chose the Roasted Vegetable Wrap and it was amazing! It consists of roasted zucchini, caramelized onions, and broccoli, topped with tomato balsamic salsa all wrapped up in a spinach tortilla.

As for my drink I chose the “Lady Bug” smoothie. It’s strawberry, blueberry, and apple and it is heavenly. I had my doubts when choosing to dine at this particular restaurant because I’ve had some not so pleasant experiences at a few other organic restaurants.

However now I’m convinced. I will be eating there regularly and can’t
wait to try some of their other options.

Do yourself a huge favor and visit the Organic Energy Restaurant and Power Juice Café. Your taste buds will thank you for it!
