Honolulu Hawaii - Hale Organic Restaurant

by Lynn Sato
(Honolulu, HI)

It takes a lot to impress me, but Hale Organic Restaurant really did!

When we first walked in, we were the only other customer which was sad. The economy is bad, but is it this bad?

The menu is a little odd. When you open it the selection is quite limited and almost forces you to pick the pre-set option with an appetizer, main dish, and dessert for $33.00 dollars.

However, a friend and I went together and shared it along with another appetizer.

The food was DELISH. I mean, not just because its "good for a vegetarian place" but because it is actually good.

We ordered the mochi soup which had a lot of flavor and tasted just like French onion soup.

We also ordered meatless gyoza! That was so good, it came out with about 6 pieces, and it was better then anything I ever tasted.

The meatless karrage, however, was the winner! I'd come back just for that. Our main dish was a fish sandwich and the eggless mayo was so good.

The flavor was excellent. It made up for everything else, like the lack of parking.

Hale Organic Restaurant has earned my loyalty. I think I'll go back once a week!

Incredibly Edible Organic Food at Down to Earth

by Ruth
(Laie, Oahu, Hawaii)

My Favorite Eatery

My Favorite Eatery

No matter how busy I am or where I am rushing to, I can rarely pass the Down to Earth store on King Street in Honolulu without stopping. I have had too many outrageously delicious moments at their all-vegetable organic food buffet.

The first time I tried their sugar-free pumpkin bars, their organic pasta salad or tofu spinach phyllo quiche, my perceived impressions about all organic and vegetarian food changed forever.

Never mind that I, Ruth, have already driven 30 plus miles from Laie where I live on the North Shore of Oahu, and have so many eateries to choose from. Not only do I feel proud of myself for helping to protect Mother Earth from the poisons of pesticides, but also I truly feel healthier after eating such quality food.

With so many contaminants in the air, soil and water these days, it is very comforting to know that you haven’t just eaten something that might harm you.

If you ever find yourself in Honolulu, take my advice and DO NOT pass up Down to Earth with its delicious buffet. If you have never eaten organic before, I guarantee you will be a convert by the time you finish!
