Modern Antiaging Therapies
by: George Parigian Jr.

Hi Demetrius,

Thanks for a great question!

Antiaging techniques and therapies fall into several categories.

  • Those that are cosmetic and involve the skin, and hair

  • Those that involve nutrition (vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants)

  • Those that involve medical therapies that directly address aging such as live cell therapy and bioidentical hormone therapy

I should start off by saying that to date no antiaging therapy has been conclusively proven to extend the human lifespan. Proof of real antiaging benefits is a difficult standard to meet for a number of reasons.

Also the mainstream medical community has somewhat of a natural bias against the concept of antiaging in part because it goes contrary to their training, and also because they do not understand it in a true sense.

Medical science has yet to establish a universally accepted explanation for aging.

With that said, let me discuss some of the antiaging techniques that are currently being offered to the public.

The thrust of antiaging nutrition is antioxidant protection against free radicals and oxidative stress. Free radicals can be thought of as highly reactive molecules careening through your body, damaging DNA and other vital cell structures.

Antioxidants provide protection from these reactive particles and thus help shield your cells and their DNA from damage, which can cause chronic health problems and even cancer.

Genomic nutrition is an emerging field in which nutrition can be used to actually alter the expression of genes that cause disease. This is a huge area of opportunity to use genetically targeted nutritional supplements to prevent disease.

Skin antiaging therapies use devices such as lasers, to remove lines and wrinkles from the skin to improve appearance. This makes you look younger, but only affects the appearance of the skin, rather than actually making it younger.

Bioidentical hormone therapy is used by antiaging doctors to optimize your hormonal profile and bring it back to the balance you had when you were younger. Your hormonal system is like the software for your body, and keeping it functioning optimally helps maintain lean muscle, skin tone, heart health, and brain function.

All of these therapies and techniques can significantly improve your health and quality of life. Even if they can’t actually extend maximum lifespan, they can certainly extend “healthy” lifespan and isn’t that what you are really after?

The bottom line is that antiaging therapies may not allow you to live to 120, but they will allow you to extend your healthy, and active years well into advanced age.
